Quotes and Comments from Jeff's Interview on Lake Nassar's Nile Perch as found on Fly Fish Radio.

Another wonderful show. I always enjoy listening to Jeff Curriers adventures. I thought Roger asked some good questions and the subject was well covered. Now I'm going out to caught some new species on the fly.

You have me interested. I will be putting Nile Perch on list of future fish to try.

I thought it was a very informative show. Jeff Currier eloquently detailed his adventures on the Nile, searching for that elusive 100lb Perch. I thought Dave's prompting on the strategies for catching Nile Perch, the gear one must think about before traveling to the Nile for such an excursion, and the general experiences that Jeff has had on his trips there set the stage for a very enlightening discussion. Nice job!

Jeff Currier's Fly Fishing Adventures
"A First Face to Face Meeting with the Nile Perch"

In May of 2006 Jeff had the opportunity of a lifetime to fly fish for Nile Perch in Egypt. The deal was simple, friend Chris Bailey, owner and host of the fishing show, "Reel Outdoors", organized a fishing safari on Lake Nasser, a dammed portion of the Nile River. He called Jeff and asked him to be his guest fly fisherman on the show. Currier had barely been back from a huge expedition exploring the Zambezi River of Southern Africa for tigerfish and bream! Without any hesitation, he accepted the offer and began researching the habits of Nile Perch and other fish species of the Nile River's Lake Nasser.

On May 5th, Jeff Currier, Chris Bailey and his camera crew began the long journey to Abu Simbel, a small city in Southern Egypt. Abu Simbel would serve as their launching spot for a fishing safari on Lake Nasser. Little did Jeff know that the long flight was the start to one of the best fishing trips of his life. The Nile Perch and his fellow friends, the Egyptian Tigerfish, talapia, various catfish species and even a freshwater pufferfish would entertain Jeff's fly fishing needs for the next 10 days.

Jeff averaged one "baby" Nile perch a day on the fly off the rocks that was over 10lb's. This one in particular should never of been caught as the terrain he lived in was a cave of jagged rocks surrounded by groups of thick weeds. It was close, but Jeff's Thomas & Thomas 9-weight managed to steer him clear. Of course if you lose 4-5 good ones you're bound to land one!

The emails you are about to read were written from internet cafes while traveling within Egypt. They are the originals reports, always produced fast and not written as well as you may expect, but nonetheless, with the attached photos will outline the story and events of this epic adventure.

Currier's Personal Journal, May 7, 2006 - This email's headline is no more surprising to you than to me - yes, I'm back in Africa! Unfortunately, this time without the Granny, as this is a bit of a business trip. I'm in Egypt as part of a TV show called "Reel Outdoors". We will be fly fishing for Nile Perch. (Google "Egypt Nile Perch" and find a photo gallery on one ...

Currier's Personal Journal, May 8, 2006 - Well, yesterdays email was a bit quick and heavily affected by a case of jet lag. And, due to a time constraint, I neglected to give some flight details that continue to play havoc with me. As usual, there are few dull moments whether it be fishing or traveling with Currier. When I arrived on Paris on Sat morning in route to ...

Currier's Personal Journal, May 18, 2006 - I just got off Lake Nasser and am back in Aswan. In one word - EPIC! This trip was one of the finest fishing trips of my life - that does say something! As usual I don't have much time. We begin our long ass journey home tomorrow with an overnight in Cairo. Then following the sun for a 30 hour trip back to SLC and ...

Currier's Personal Journal, May 20, 2006 - It's pretty darn nice here in Victor this morning, but as a Cub fan, may as well stayed back in Egypt and enjoyed life with no sports news! Egypt was an incredible trip! It seems strange, fishing in Egypt, but Lake Nasser of the Nile River is a fantastic venue. We left out of Aswan at 4 am for the Sudan border town ...
