“Fly
Fishing Argentina for Golden Dorado” - Argentina’s freshwater dorado
is one the world’s most fantastic game fish. Yet most anglers that visit
Argentina are unaware of this great fish and head south to the clear
cold rivers of the fabled Patagonia region in the Andes Mountains. The
golden dorado prefers a more tropical environment and makes its home in
Northern Argentina in the Iberá Marsh, another of Argentina’s many
treasures. The Marsh’s Everglade like beauty and numerous species of
wildlife make a must visit for every fly fisherman. Join Jeff and
friends as they stalk the spectacular dorado from Rincon Del Diablo
Lodge. Not only will you enjoy amazing photos of the rarely sought
dorado, but many other exotic species that thrive in the Iberá Marsh as
well.
The
Golden Dorado is a large river fish that lives in South America. Its
binomial name is Salminus maxillosus. Even though it has Salminus in its
name, the dorado is not related to salmon, nor to the saltwater fish
also called dorado. Dorado have large heads, with powerful jaws that are
filled with sharp teeth. They average about 3 feet long, and are golden
colored. The average size of the golden dorado is about 6-25 pounds, but
the largest recorded size is 68 pounds.
Dorado means "golden". In Argentina it is also known as "the tiger of
the river" and is the great native gamefish of South America. Beauty and
ferocity, the perfect challenge and an extreme test for any flyfisherman.
