Jeff Currier's Fly Fishing Adventures
"A Return to Egypt, for more Giant Nile Perch"

In 2006 Jeff had the wonderful opportunity to fly fish for Nile Perch in Egypt's Lake Nasser. Jeff was invited on this expedition by Chris Bailey, the host of TV Show "Reel Outdoors". Jeff was assigned the duty to figure out how to catch a Nile Perch on a fly rod. If he did, there would be a TV show about it.

Too the surprise of all, Jeff managed to catch many Nile Perch on the fly. "Reel Outdoors aired two shows about the excellent fly fishing both Jeff and Chris encountered during the expedition. They each managed a Nile Perch of 40lbs!

The fantastic trip was organized by the African Angler. During this trip Jeff became close friends with African Angler owner Tim Baily. Although Tim is not a fly fisherman, he found himself intrigued by the new tactics Jeff used on Lake Nasser. It was during the 2006 trip that the plans for a 2007 return trip to Egypt was planned.

In this section are the stories and pictures from this newest global fly fishing adventure.

Currier's Personal Journal, April 23, 2007 - Greetings from East B... Egypt - just kidding! I'm back in Aswan, Egypt just about to take on the Nile Perch of Lake Nasser again. This year instead of doing a TV show for Reel Outdoors with Chris Bailey, I'm here with a group of 7 anglers. One of these is Granny. Many of you remember how incredible ...

Currier's Personal Journal, May 6, 2007 - Granny and I returned from Egypt late Friday night. I originally planned to send an email when we got off Lake Nasser Thursday, but time and computer struggles didn't allow for it. So, instead of from the broiling city of Aswan, Egypt where the thermometer topped 105 degrees everyday, I'll sum up the trip ...

Jeff Currier and the giant Nile Perch on YouTube. You have to see this movie if you have never been face to face with this creature.
Breaking camp. After a great night of sleeping in the sand dunes of the Sahara Desert, Jeff and his group head out for another great day of Nile Perch fishing on Egypt's Lake Nasser.
Most anglers are only familiar with the puffer fish of the worlds oceans. Lake Nasser of Egypt has the worlds only freshwater puffer fish that Jeff has found!
A lucky catch! Jeff and his wife celebrate this 22lb Nile Perch Jeff landed off the rocks on his 10-weight Thomas & Thomas fly rod.
Jeff poses with a 16lb Nile he dredged from the depths with his 400-grain Scientific Anglers Streamer Express fly line. Jeff was fishing from shore and let his fly sink deep below a cliff bank.
Rarely do anglers of Lake Nasser seek the fierce looking Egyptian Tigerfish. Jeff does. This 7lb Tigerfish was caught by Jeff's wife "Granny" with a Clouser Minnow on a 7-weight with a floating line.
A massive Nile Perch barely clears the water attempting to jump! This is one of the beast's that got away!
The magnificent scenery of Lake Nasser. Jeff casts for Niles from the rugged shore of Lake Nasser.
The baby Nile Perch of Lake Nasser are just fine for most fly anglers. Jeff's wife "Granny" poses with a 5 1/2 lb Nile Perch she took from a high cliff.
Jeff thought he spotted this Nile Perch too late. The fish was swimming the shorline when Jeff spotted it only 10ft from his rod tip. He froze like a stork and the monster Nile swam past him unknowing of his presence. Once the fish was out of sight, Jeff dropped a 20 foot cast in the direction the fish was heading and wham! The mighty perch was on! The fish was too big to weigh on Jeff's 30lb Boga Grip and was estimated at 35-40lb!
Jeff's wife "Granny" landed this 7lb tigerfish. Jeff is holding it for Granny so she doesn't lose a finger!
Jeff sight cast to this fish during the last minutes of the trip. The 18lber was cruising close to shore and Jeff presented the fly with his 9-weight Thomas & Thomas. It was a tremendous battle! After Jeff released the fish, his guide Suka told him they only had 15 minutes before the trip was over. Jeff opted for a beer and enjoys the fact that his last cast in Egypt resulted in a magnificent Nile!
