Back to Dubai and Oman

Ocean-Active-FlyI never in my life thought there would be a day when I was happy to leave the Seychelles, but after the miserable week of the trip without a trip thanks to a cyclone, I was ready for todays change.  I arrived in Dubai at 4:20 AM with my friend Sammy Vigneri.  We’re here to visit my friend Nick Bowles.  Nick owns Ocean Active Fly which is the fishing operation of Dubai.

Jeff-Currier-fish-DubaiAlarmingly, we arrived amidst a pouring rainstorm.  I kid you not.  When the wheels of our 777 hit the ground I looked outside and saw a shiny wet runway in the dark.  I forgot where I was because it never rains in Dubai.  But there it was.  The weather saga of this trip continued.

Dubai

Luckily by the time we settled in to Nicks house the rain stopped.  I collapsed in his guest room for an hour then came out for coffee.  Another Dubai friend greeted us, Trevor Skinner.  After catching up over coffee we went out for a tremendous Indian style breakfast.  Dubai has it all.

flyfishing-OmanDuring breakfast we got the details of our next few days from Trevor.  We’re not fishing Dubai this week due to the horrible weather.  Instead Sammy and I hopped a taxi for Sharjah, UAE and caught an Air Arabia flight for Salalah, Oman to meet up with Nick who has been down there with another friend the last few days.

So as crazy as it all sounds, I know Oman well.  Granny and I rented a car in Muscat, Oman in 2015 and camped and fished our way all the way down to Salalah for a couple weeks.  It was several kicks beyond the trip of a lifetime.  Amazing to say the least.  This week I’ll be in a boat but somehow I think it too will be amazing.

Stay tuned for what has now become, “The Revenge of the Africanus”.
