So Long to Asturias Spain and the World Fly Fishing Championships

As fast as it begins – it’s over.  A flash in life.  For months I awaited adventures in Asturias Spain for the World Fly Fishing Championship Masters and already it’s a memory.  But a dang good one.  Congratulations to Team Spain for 1st, Team Italy for 2nd and Team France for 3rd.

Also congratulations to Isai Manuel Ferreras of Spain for winning the Individual Gold Medal.  It was a pleasure to share the bus with this man each day.  I only wish we could’ve talked more so I could learn a few things!

Although Team USA Masters dropped from 3rd in the World last year in Portugal to 4th in the World this year in Spain, I loved this experience.  Kudos to our host of Asturias Spain for making this an ENTIRELY wild brown trout competition.  Though extremely challenging and there were less fish caught then at most tournaments, this was hands down, a fantastic venue.

Furthermore, the organization of this huge event, the food, comfortable hotel and the friendly people of Asturias is what I’ll cherish the most.  I look forward to returning here again someday.

And of course the chance to catch up with fellow competitors from all over the world.  They have become great friends.  It’s such a bummer we only meet once a year.  But it’s better than nothing.  I’ll look forward to seeing many of you in Dullstroom, South Africa in February 2019.

For now it’s a long drive to Madrid then a flight back to Idaho.  I recon I need some sleep.  Stay tuned for next week when I return to St. Brandon’s Atoll and the continued quest for the yellow permit.
