Laying Low Through the Dog Days of August

by | Aug 24, 2020 | fly fishing webinars by Jeff Currier

fish-IdahoBeen laying low.  I haven’t picked up a rod in a week.  Its not like I haven’t wanted to hit the water but it’s been insanely hot for the Yellowstone Country with temps topping 90°s for a straight week.  I definitely don’t want to mess with my local trout from the rivers in this heat.  Perhaps I’ll hit a cool water lake soon.  Furthermore, its nauseatingly smokey from hundreds of forest fires.  So instead of being outside where I love to be, I’ve been inside updating my website, painting fish and listening to a ton of Cubs baseball on the radio.

Icelandic-brown-troutAs for my website, I’ve added a new avenue for my business.  Thanks to Covid-19 I lost nearly all of my 2020 speaking gigs.  It’s a shame as it’s my main source of income and I worked so hard to build this business up.  But I’m not the type of guy to throw in the towel.  Instead, check my official launch of Live Zoom PowerPoint presentations.

fish-decalsMany of you caught some of my first Zooms that I did for Fly Fishers International back in the spring.  Others of you may perhaps be members of some of the fly fishing clubs where I’ve already done a talk for your club – most recently last Thursday night when I delivered “Trout Bumming the World” for the Santa Lucia Fly Fishing Club in CA. Bottom line is that if you are a member of a club or have a special event where you need entertainment, please Contact me as I am open for business!

Speaking of business, it never hurts for me to remind everyone that you can purchase my fish decals from my friends at Pescador on the Fly.  And of course, I have “Gifts for the Anglers that have Everything” on my webstore.  Here you can shop online for over 80 different species of fish on one of my famous coffee mugs, beer steins, sun shirts and solar hoodies.

I started fly fishing at age 7 in the lakes and ponds of New England cutting my teeth on various sunfish, bass, crappie and stocked trout. I went to Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin, where I graduated with a Naturalist Degree while I discovered new fishing opportunities for pike, muskellunge, walleyes and various salmonids found in Lake Superior and its tributaries.

From there I headed west to work a few years in the Yellowstone region to simply work as much as most people fish and fish as much as most people work. I did just that, only it lasted over 20 years working at the Jack Dennis Fly Shop in Jackson, WY where I departed in 2009. Now it’s time to work for "The Man", working for myself that is.

I pursue my love to paint fish, lecture on every aspect of fly fishing you can imagine and host a few trips to some of the most exotic places you can think of. My ultimate goal is to catch as many species of fish on fly possible from freshwater to saltwater, throughout the world. I presently have taken over 440 species from over 60 countries!
