Fin-and-Fire-FlyshopNo fishing today but I got to talk it.  Today I delivered a full day of entertainment and teaching at the Fin and Fire Fly Shop in Redmond, Oregon.  Fin and Fire is one of the premier fly shops of not only Oregon, but I’ve heard about this fly shop from folks throughout my travels around the country.

Jeff-Currier-flyfishingThe day began at 8 AM meeting with the fly shop crew.  We sipped coffee and ate pastries until customers arrived.  At 10 AM I launched my “Fly Fishing Saltwater” PowerPoint and did “So You Want to be a World Traveler” at noon, “The Worlds Best Trout Destinations” at 2 and I closed the day down at 4 with “Streamer Fishing for more and Larger Trout”.

Jeff-Currier-artIn between my talks I mingled with the folks and decorated Cliff Fly Boxes.  I kept those Sharpies moving.  All in all it was a fantastic day.  I can’t even explain how nice it is to be back out and about teaching and meeting folks again like before the Covid nightmare.  If you’re part of a club, fly shop or have a fly fishing show be sure to keep me in mind as a speaker whether a live appearance or a zoom.

Tomorrow its back on the water.  Scott, Sarah, Granny and I are heading for Suttle Lake.  Scott’s never been but says there’s some potential for huge brown trout.

I started fly fishing at age 7 in the lakes and ponds of New England cutting my teeth on various sunfish, bass, crappie and stocked trout. I went to Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin, where I graduated with a Naturalist Degree while I discovered new fishing opportunities for pike, muskellunge, walleyes and various salmonids found in Lake Superior and its tributaries.

From there I headed west to work a few years in the Yellowstone region to simply work as much as most people fish and fish as much as most people work. I did just that, only it lasted over 20 years working at the Jack Dennis Fly Shop in Jackson, WY where I departed in 2009. Now it’s time to work for "The Man", working for myself that is.

I pursue my love to paint fish, lecture on every aspect of fly fishing you can imagine and host a few trips to some of the most exotic places you can think of. My ultimate goal is to catch as many species of fish on fly possible from freshwater to saltwater, throughout the world. I presently have taken over 440 species from over 60 countries!
