Time to Recoup

So you know, my website is updating and being rebuilt. If pages are giving you trouble this is why.

Currier-Mayer-flyfishingIt’s hard to believe but the first half of the monster 2024 show season is in the books.  It was a demanding run that started with a drive from WI through Canada to Wolfeboro, NH on December 21st.  First it was the holidays with family then the MA, Denver, NJ and Atlanta Fly Fishing Shows through all of January.  Each event was three days and I delivered six presentations at each one.  I even wedged in a speaking engagement about Iceland in downtown Philadelphia during the journey from the NJ to Atlanta.  That’s 31 talks and the year has hardly started!

flyfishing-showI’m happy to say that Granny and I are finally home for the first time all year and it feels good.  The trip from Atlanta to Hayward, WI entailed a stop in Nashville to visit friends.  That was awesome, but now we’re home and it’s time to recuperate and get ready for the next half.

NashvilleBefore the “next half” however, and as part of resting up, I’ll be headed south for a few casts at redfish and whatever else seems hungry.  More on this later.

After redfishing I’m hoping for some ice time and then get started with the second half of show season. Second half of show season will kick off speaking at the Great Waters Fly Fishing Show in Minneapolis.  Then a one nighter in Great Falls, MT, the Chinook Waters in Lethbridge Alberta Fly Fishing Show and gig for the Fish Tales Fly Shop in Calgary.  I’ll wrap things up on March 24th.

Currier-mahseerAnd just so you know, exciting fishing is one the way soon also.  Once show madness is complete, I’m headed back to Bhutan in April for golden mahseer.  If you weren’t following the blog during 2014 on my first trip there you can still check it out here!

That’s all for now.  Keep the pedal to the metal!

I started fly fishing at age 7 in the lakes and ponds of New England cutting my teeth on various sunfish, bass, crappie and stocked trout. I went to Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin, where I graduated with a Naturalist Degree while I discovered new fishing opportunities for pike, muskellunge, walleyes and various salmonids found in Lake Superior and its tributaries.

From there I headed west to work a few years in the Yellowstone region to simply work as much as most people fish and fish as much as most people work. I did just that, only it lasted over 20 years working at the Jack Dennis Fly Shop in Jackson, WY where I departed in 2009. Now it’s time to work for "The Man", working for myself that is.

I pursue my love to paint fish, lecture on every aspect of fly fishing you can imagine and host a few trips to some of the most exotic places you can think of. My ultimate goal is to catch as many species of fish on fly possible from freshwater to saltwater, throughout the world. I presently have taken over 440 species from over 60 countries!
