Arrival In Belize

fly fishing in BelizeIt was a hectic week for me.  My blog writing laptop went caput in Louisiana two weeks ago so on Saturday Granny and I went to Idaho Falls and not only did I get a new laptop, but I threw away my flip phone and got an I phone 10.  It has been brutal learning how to use both of these items!

packing for fly fishingAlong with the painful hours learning how to use my new toys, I had to pack.  Not just for one trip but for three.  I will fish Belize this week followed by a week in South Africa then Anna Atoll off Tahiti in December.  I’m not complaining one bit, but there were some long nights in my fishing room this week.

But now I’m ready.  And Granny and I arrived in Belize today.  We just finished the boat ride from Belize City to Turneffe Flats Lodge where we are guests of my long-time friends, Craig and Karen Hayes, owners of this incredible lodge.  Although fishing and relaxing is the theme of this trip, Craig asked me to help with some of the guides with the “fundamentals of being a guide”.  So, we’ll work on some of that too.

Turneffe Flats LodgeWe’re exhausted and its only 9 PM.  That might have to do with a flight delay and a redeye from Salt Lake to Atlanta earlier today.  Then a flight to Belize and an hour and half boat ride this afternoon.  In tomorrow’s blog I’ll include a little about the history of this incredible Belize fishing lodge that I first visited in 1989.

Christmas is around the corner.  DON’T FORGET my Online Store has gifts for the angler that has everything!  I have painted over 60 species of fish now available on my coffee mugs and frosted beer steins.  There’re also my new Solar Flex shirts in both men’s and women’s.  AND my growing collection of fish decals can be purchased on Amazon.

Be sure to keep track of my upcoming travels around the world!

I started fly fishing at age 7 in the lakes and ponds of New England cutting my teeth on various sunfish, bass, crappie and stocked trout. I went to Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin, where I graduated with a Naturalist Degree while I discovered new fishing opportunities for pike, muskellunge, walleyes and various salmonids found in Lake Superior and its tributaries.

From there I headed west to work a few years in the Yellowstone region to simply work as much as most people fish and fish as much as most people work. I did just that, only it lasted over 20 years working at the Jack Dennis Fly Shop in Jackson, WY where I departed in 2009. Now it’s time to work for "The Man", working for myself that is.

I pursue my love to paint fish, lecture on every aspect of fly fishing you can imagine and host a few trips to some of the most exotic places you can think of. My ultimate goal is to catch as many species of fish on fly possible from freshwater to saltwater, throughout the world. I presently have taken over 440 species from over 60 countries!
