Before the pandemic my schedule was a wild one. In 2019 I fished in twelve countries. More impressive and undoubtedly economically better, I also gave 47 presentations around the US and Canada over the course of the year. It was a productive 365 days, but honestly, hopefully I never travel that much in a year again. But I better get a grip, today showed signs that I’m headed right back to where I left off.
The day began in Sun City – about an hour from Steve and Lisa Berry’s house in north Phoenix. I was there early to fly fish a private lake with members of the Sun City Grand Fly Fishing Club. I nailed a grass carp and a common. If only the big orange koi that tipped on my crayfish pattern ate, I’d have gotten a carp slam. After a nice lunch with some of the folks, I delivered my Warmwater Fly Fishing PowerPoint presentation. Things went perfect and we wrapped up their day around 3.
After the already productive and complete day, Steve raced me across town to meet Desert Fly Casters members for a 4:30 dinner. Afterwards I displayed my art then presented my Warmwater Fly Fishing show for the second time in the day. Double duty! I have only worked with two clubs in the same day one other time and it was years ago.
It was about 9:45 PM when I got all my props and art packed up to call it a work day. Then Steve and a few friends that belong to DFC and I headed for a beer. We just returned to Steve’s and I must say I’m a little tired.
I need some sleep. Tomorrow is a big day. Steve and I are fishing with friends Gentry Smith and Mike Faulkinbury somewhere along the urban canals here in Phoenix. Steve and I only have until around noon because at 1:30 I pick up Granny’s and my new van. Big stuff!
Once again, it’s time to remind everyone that Christmas is coming on fast and I have “Gifts for the angler that has everything”. Visit my Webstore for my famous fish coffee mugs, beer steins, sun shirts, sun hoodies and visit my friends at Pescador on the Fly to order my 10” and 5” fish decals!
