The Midwest Fly Fishing Expo

blog-March-11-2016-flyfishing-show-season-Jeff-CurrierIt’s off to Michigan tomorrow to speak at the Midwest Fly Fishing Expo.  I spoke at this show back in 2013 and had a great time.  This weekend I’ll be sharing speaking duties with one the all-time greats, Joe Humphreys as well as friends Ed Engle, Skip Morris, Jason Randall and many more.  If you live near, take AT LEAST a day to visit the show and take in some of the many seminars and demonstrations.

If you notice an extra big smile on my face, that’s because I’m flying home Sunday night to drop off my work stuff and grab my saltwater gear.  On Monday I’ll head for the West Coast of Africa to the incredible country of Gabon to fish with my friends of Tourette – Fight it in Africa.  I’ll have more on this after the show as I say goodbye to the good ole USA!

Here’s my schedule for the Midwest Fly Fishing Expo March 12 & 13:

Saturday

10:30 – “Four Seasons of the Yellowstone Trout Bum”

12:45 – “Casting in the Wind and the Double Haul”

3:30 – “Saltwater Fly Fishing – Bonefish to Billfish”

Sunday

10:30 – “Fly Casting 101”

11:45 – “Trout Bumming the World”

2:15 – “Improve Your Fishing Photography”

I started fly fishing at age 7 in the lakes and ponds of New England cutting my teeth on various sunfish, bass, crappie and stocked trout. I went to Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin, where I graduated with a Naturalist Degree while I discovered new fishing opportunities for pike, muskellunge, walleyes and various salmonids found in Lake Superior and its tributaries.

From there I headed west to work a few years in the Yellowstone region to simply work as much as most people fish and fish as much as most people work. I did just that, only it lasted over 20 years working at the Jack Dennis Fly Shop in Jackson, WY where I departed in 2009. Now it’s time to work for "The Man", working for myself that is.

I pursue my love to paint fish, lecture on every aspect of fly fishing you can imagine and host a few trips to some of the most exotic places you can think of. My ultimate goal is to catch as many species of fish on fly possible from freshwater to saltwater, throughout the world. I presently have taken over 440 species from over 60 countries!
