A Great Fishing Week in MT comes to an End

Kootenai-AnglerIt was a great visit up to our friends Dave and Tammy and Blackburn’s Kootenai Angler.  I can’t believe it took me years to make the trip up to fish with Dave.  But, for me lately my fishing has been 2 hours from home in the car or flying somewhere far away rather than a 9-hour drive to northern Montana.

fish-artIf you’ve been fishing the west for years and not yet tried the Kootenai River than perhaps it’s time to give Dave a call.  There’re not many uncrowded rivers these days nor rainbows the size of the one I caught a few days ago.  Plus, you might even catch that accidental bull trout.  I’m certain you’d enjoy one of the cabins and fishing with one of Dave’s guides.  Dave may even rock his restaurant with one of his “Currier Custom Fish Art” banjos!

fish-MontanaGranny and I took two days to get home.  We drove the entire western edge of the Idaho on the Route 95.  The road took us through some unique country and we squeezed in a couple beautiful nights of camping.

For now, it’s back to work in Victor.  I have a few art projects awaiting and two articles to get done.  I’ll also be doing another Online presentation for a Fly fishing Club and another one for Yellow Dog.  Stay tuned for details!

I started fly fishing at age 7 in the lakes and ponds of New England cutting my teeth on various sunfish, bass, crappie and stocked trout. I went to Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin, where I graduated with a Naturalist Degree while I discovered new fishing opportunities for pike, muskellunge, walleyes and various salmonids found in Lake Superior and its tributaries.

From there I headed west to work a few years in the Yellowstone region to simply work as much as most people fish and fish as much as most people work. I did just that, only it lasted over 20 years working at the Jack Dennis Fly Shop in Jackson, WY where I departed in 2009. Now it’s time to work for "The Man", working for myself that is.

I pursue my love to paint fish, lecture on every aspect of fly fishing you can imagine and host a few trips to some of the most exotic places you can think of. My ultimate goal is to catch as many species of fish on fly possible from freshwater to saltwater, throughout the world. I presently have taken over 440 species from over 60 countries!
