Chaos at the Currier’s!

pike-fishingThere’s been no fishing since returning from the incredible pike expedition to Alaska.  First at hand was to finish up my blogs and edit exactly 700 photos from the trip.  I added some amazing northern pike images to my collection and I’m looking forward to sharing them this winter on my 2022 speaking tour.  But it was a massive project that required sitting at the computer rather than enjoying fall outdoors.

Jeff-CurrierThe real cut to my fishing however is incredibly big news.  I didn’t let the cat out of the bag, but since our April Wisconsin trip, Granny and I went through the massive process of preparing and selling our house.  On September 7th we officially closed.  We have it until November 1 then we are homeless.  Exciting!!!

flyfishingBottomline, we have been cleaning and packing like you can’t imagine.  We had another yard sale Saturday and basically unloaded all of our furniture.  We don’t know for sure when or where we’ll buy a house but it will likely be near Lake Superior (our old stomping grounds) this spring and it will be a serious downsize in size and cost.  With our extra cash we intend to buy a kick-butt van.  For years we’ve been dreaming of an upgrade from our efficient Explorer, but its time.  Honestly, its not as easy climbing in and out of that tiny Explorer bed as it used to be.

flyfishingI’ll leave it at that.  Things are freaking crazy right now for us with our belongings scattered everywhere.  To enhance the craziness just a bit more, I leave for the World Masters Championships on Saturday and will be in the Czech Republic until October 12th.  I better get back to packing my house up.  More in a few days as the travel to Europe begins.

Thanks Brian. By the time we are in the Seychelles I should be pretty relaxed. Now not so much!

When that bad ass van is ready to point south to Baja, hit me up. I may have some interesting challenges for you (ie sight casting mullet snapper in full spawn color, skinny water).

    John,

I love those mullet snapper and have managed to sight up two. All within ten minutes so I’m ready to REALLY enjoy the experience. Will Do!

I started fly fishing at age 7 in the lakes and ponds of New England cutting my teeth on various sunfish, bass, crappie and stocked trout. I went to Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin, where I graduated with a Naturalist Degree while I discovered new fishing opportunities for pike, muskellunge, walleyes and various salmonids found in Lake Superior and its tributaries.

From there I headed west to work a few years in the Yellowstone region to simply work as much as most people fish and fish as much as most people work. I did just that, only it lasted over 20 years working at the Jack Dennis Fly Shop in Jackson, WY where I departed in 2009. Now it’s time to work for "The Man", working for myself that is.

I pursue my love to paint fish, lecture on every aspect of fly fishing you can imagine and host a few trips to some of the most exotic places you can think of. My ultimate goal is to catch as many species of fish on fly possible from freshwater to saltwater, throughout the world. I presently have taken over 440 species from over 60 countries!
