Back in the Seychelles

Yellowdog-flyfishingThree days ago I wrote a blog from Mom’s house in NH, this morning I’m delivering it from the Eden Bleu Hotel here in Mahe, Seychelles.  It was a long haul but the one thing I like about 30 hours of flying, I can’t do much.  No tinkering.  No emails.  Not much of anything other than reading, watching movies and sleeping.  And when you look at flight travel like that, reaching the far side of the world goes pretty darn fast.

flyfihsing-seychellesI arrived here to the Seychelles early.  Its Friday and I could have arrived on Sunday.  But on this trip, if I, or any of my folks miss the charter flight to Astove Atoll on Monday morning, you miss the trip.  I had some pretty bad luck here in December 2019 with a cyclone so being here safe and sound nice and early – I’m ok with it.

SeychellesI’m taking five anglers with me Monday to Astove.  They arrive here tomorrow.   Then I have another six arriving next week for my second trip and I’ll be taking them to Cosmoledo Atoll.

These are Yellow Dog Hosted trips and if you ever want to go feel free to contact me or go directly to Yellow Dog.  I will be doing the 2019 cyclone make up trip in April 2022 and there are a couple spots.  Let me know!

fish-coffee-mugsI will have very little internet after this weekend but as usual, I’ll be writing and posting my day by day accounts as I can.

I started fly fishing at age 7 in the lakes and ponds of New England cutting my teeth on various sunfish, bass, crappie and stocked trout. I went to Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin, where I graduated with a Naturalist Degree while I discovered new fishing opportunities for pike, muskellunge, walleyes and various salmonids found in Lake Superior and its tributaries.

From there I headed west to work a few years in the Yellowstone region to simply work as much as most people fish and fish as much as most people work. I did just that, only it lasted over 20 years working at the Jack Dennis Fly Shop in Jackson, WY where I departed in 2009. Now it’s time to work for "The Man", working for myself that is.

I pursue my love to paint fish, lecture on every aspect of fly fishing you can imagine and host a few trips to some of the most exotic places you can think of. My ultimate goal is to catch as many species of fish on fly possible from freshwater to saltwater, throughout the world. I presently have taken over 440 species from over 60 countries!
