No Time for Rest

August 12-14

flyfishing-WisconsinThere’s a lot of good pics and stories from a three day float trip we finished up today, however this blog will be short.  I spent so much time on last weeks Labrador blogs that my back hurts and my eyes are tired from sitting at the computer for hours.  This being said, what a trip Labrador – it was truly amazing.  The blogs will be fun to look back on for years to come.

smallmouth-bassThese last few days weren’t too bad either.  I had to get my girl on the water before summer sneaks past so Granny and I grabbed our new oversized tent and joined friends Bob and Jana Butler for a three day two night float/camping and fishing trip on a northern Wisconsin river.  This river isn’t famous for huge fish, not by any means, but it’s loaded with smallmouth bass from 8-13 inches.  It was a blast to watch my lady hammer away at a bunch of them on both streamers and topwater.

WisconsinThe company, the food and the scenery were hard to beat as well.  You know Bob well from the blog.  Bob and I fish together often.  But his wife Jana is fun to hang with as well.  We fished each day till about 4:30 then enjoyed a sunset cocktail hour and a delicious camp dinner.

fly-fishingThat’s about all I have.  I literally went almost straight from Labrador on to one of my local rivers and kept right on a fishin.  No complaints.  But this weekend I need to finish up a permit painting along with a number of other projects both yard and work.  But I can assure you next week will be full of more local fishing adventures!

  1. That’s not a Clacka?? I see you didn’t give up on the “Blue Bathtub” … you have a history of hanging on to those old goodies! How many more miles you think she’s got in her?

  2. Lance, I was wondering if anyone would comment about that. The new Clacka is a big boat and the rivers are low right now. Also, I had three rapids to contend with that I’d never set eyes on before. A little risky actually when you think about it, but I knew at worst they were #2s. I felt confident but just in case, I felt the Bathtub would be easier to row being smaller and lighter. The Clacka may get out next week. I’m feeling a redhorse sucker hunt is in order!

  3. Something tells me it has a special place in your heart and we will be seeing it once and awhile for a long time in the future.. kind of like a certain Dodge Aspen. By the way, how many miles are on the Ford Explorer?? I had a 94 but gave up on it at about 200K.

  4. I noticed the blue bathtub as well. Hard not to. The Blue Bathtub needs a special blog float at least once a year!

  5. Yup, nothing better than towing the Bathtub behind my 91 Exploder. That’s more me for sure over the van and a newer Clacka. I don’t see myself changing. Not a big fan of change of things that are already pretty darn smooth! Only 140K on her but she’s rusting bad. That move in 2021 where it parked in NH for a year was too close to the ocean. That hurt the old Silver Ford.

  6. Howie, if I can put a 50 incher (musky) in the net from the Bathtub this fall then I may retire her and make her a flower garden. Could look good and then I could sit in it at home and pretend and riminess the good ole days!
