It’s been an adventure since I posted Fridays blog. You may remember that after a great morning of grass carp fishing, in the afternoon down in AZ I found myself on the phone with Delta rescheduling my flight from Phoenix to get home before a major Midwest snowstorm hit. Well, we made it. It meant taking a roundabout route home starting with a redeye from Phoenix to Atlanta Friday but by Saturday night we were eating spaghetti at home in Hayward WI.
The snow started as Granny and I went to bed Saturday night and it was on and off blizzard conditions all of Sunday. It was concerning because today I was scheduled to fly to TX. Honestly, when I went to bed last night, catching a flight out of Duluth for Minneapolis then Texas looked hopeless. Especially because ALL flights involving Minneapolis Sunday were cancelled.
This morning I woke up at 3:30 and checked the Delta App expecting to see “Cancelled” for my 8 am departure. To me disbelief it read, “On Time”. I made some coffee and was on my way to the airport by 4:15 am. Its normally a 90 minute drive from Hayward to the Duluth Airport, this morning took slightly more than two hours. Blowing snow and roads sheeted with ice and snowdrifts kept me cautions.
It’s an incredible world, when I arrived at the airport, I learned my flight out was on time. All today’s flights went smooth as silk and I arrived in Austin, TX around noon and met up with buddy Brian Iannacchione. We drove from Austin to the coast and we are settled at friend, and legendary guide, Jaco Lucas’s house and we’ll fish the next four days. While redfish will be a big part of this trip, our main goal is to catch our first sheepshead on fly.
