A Visit to Four Corners Lodge in Costa Rica

flyfishing-Costa-RicaI haven’t said much about a run down to Costa Rica with Granny to visit our friends at 4 Corners.  I guess the reality of it is I haven’t had time since the founder of 4 Corners, Charles Hill, put together a plan for Granny and I to visit way back in September.  I’ve been fishing too much.  But I’m happy to say we arrived in San Jose, Costa Rica last night and this morning we took a short Sansa flight down to Puerto Jimenez on the Osa Peninsula.  We are starting 2026 in style!

4-corners-Costa-Rica4 Corners is a fairly new operation of about three years.  Charles Hill and his born and raised Costa Rican friend Marvin Rodriguez decided they wanted to share the fishing wonders of Costa Rica.  They picked out what they feel are some of the best fishing locations in all of Costa Rica and made them available to guests.  The destinations and quality of the fishing they have decided to share is so special they’ve already become a Yellow Dog Flyfishing destination.  This week Granny and I get to experience the Corcovado which will be a mix of Pacific Ocean inshore and offshore fishing.

4-Corners-Costa-RicaAs arrival day, today wasn’t really a day for fishing.  However, after a delicious lunch, Charles suggested an hour of fishing around sunset off the nearby beach.  We weren’t going to pass that up.  After getting acquainted with the lodge and our accommodations I rigged up my 9 and a 10-weight. The 9 with a full floating line and a shrimp pattern and the 10 with my SA Jungle Clear Tip and a dark streamer.

4-Corners-Costa-RicaOnce rigged I intended to head out and make a few cast here at the lodge.  They have a few mangroves that home some snook and some great looking beach frontage.  But at about 3 PM the afternoon rains came.  They were heavy and getting things soaked on the first afternoon didn’t sound that fun.  Instead I did a little Fly Fishing Show preparation on a new PowerPoint I’ll be delivering and enjoyed a nap.

flyfishing-costa-ricaThe rain stopped around 4 and by 5 PM we were walking the beach with Charles, Marvin’s son Alturo and two other guest here Jarred and Grace – owners of Cling.  We fished the very section of beach where Arturo saw a school of roosterfish last night, but tonight they weren’t around.  That’s fishing.  It was a fantastic evening on the beach nonetheless.

4-Corners-Costa-RicaThat’s all for today.  We just finished dinner and a beer with the other guests and we’re exhausted.  We’ll also be starting early tomorrow – departure from the lodge at 5:45 AM.  I’m planning to get up at 4:30 for coffee and early morning jungle birds.  Then hopefully we’ll go stick a few fish.
