Great Memories from Slovenia

Fly fishing in Europe 2013 will go down as a “Monsoon Currier” classic.  Vladi and I fought through at least some heavy rain EVERY day of the trip and more than half the adventure we had rain all day.  Luckily, despite the tormenting weather, the goals were met. First...

Final Push – Fly Fishing in Slovenia

June 8 & 9, 2013   We fished ourselves into the ground these last two days.  I’ll group them together so I can get some rest.   June 8   Yesterday we fished a new river in Slovenia named the Nadiža.  A stunningly beautiful river but very few fish. ...

No Blanks in Slovenia

June 7, 2013   Rain, rain and more rain today.   We hung around the Pri Jazbecu till 11 then went to the Idrijca River and threw on the waders and permanently wet rain jackets.  Vladi’s foot is almost better so he was ready to fish.  We went right to where we...

Unexpected Fishing Day in Italy

June 6, 2013   I’ve been fishing my butt off for a week.  Yesterday I walked miles.  When Vladi suggested a day of cruising into Italy instead of fishing so he could rest his foot, I was all over the idea.  I pictured a great meal and some killer red wine at some...

Marmoratus on the Dry Fly in Slovenia

June 5, 2013   I thought Vladi was tossing and turning at 4 AM this morning because of the cuckoo bird we have outside our room.  But it wasn’t the crazy bird, it was Vladi’s foot.  Apparently he likes fishing like most of us and ignored his pain yesterday only...

Fly Fishing the Reka Bacu of Slovenia

June 3, 2013 Vladi woke up to a terrible blister on his foot from his wading shoes.  We definitely walked our butts off yesterday on the Kupa River in Croatia.  Unfortunately the blister was so bad he could hardly walk and putting his wading shoe on was impossible. ...

Fly Fishing the Kupa River in Croatia

June 2, 2013 It’s almost twenty-five years to the day that the former Yugoslavia broke up into smaller countries.  Slovenia, where Vladi and I have been fishing these first three days, is the furthest north and west.  Just south and east is Croatia.  There are a...

No Rain & a Fine Day on the Idrijca River in Slovenia

This morning wasn’t sunny, it wasn’t warm, but it wasn’t raining.  It was hard to tell because the trees, houses, electric poles and etc were dripping so much, but finally it’s not raining.  The unexpected mountain view from the Pri Jazbecu is incredible.   The...

Mission Accomplished!

I could very possibly outdo myself in the “Monsoon Currier” department this week.  It bloody rained hard all yesterday.  And at dark when I was working that big hybrid the rain got heavier.  Then during the night it rained even harder.  This morning it’s raining like...

A Day to Remember in Former Yugoslavia

Vladi and I must have been more tired than we thought.  We didn’t move unit 8 AM.  Sure, my body hasn’t adjusted to the 8 hour time change, but Vladi, he’s normally an early riser.  Once up the folks that own this B & B, Pri Jezbecu, made us a delicious breakfast...

Bound for Marble Trout

May 29, 2013 The trip began with an abrupt awakening at 3 AM yesterday to start my 5 hour drive to Salt Lake City where I began my flight travel to Europe.  From SLC I flew to Los Angeles then caught a 10 hour KLM flight to Amsterdam through the night.  Then I caught...

I started fly fishing at age 7 in the lakes and ponds of New England cutting my teeth on various sunfish, bass, crappie and stocked trout. I went to Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin, where I graduated with a Naturalist Degree while I discovered new fishing opportunities for pike, muskellunge, walleyes and various salmonids found in Lake Superior and its tributaries.

From there I headed west to work a few years in the Yellowstone region to simply work as much as most people fish and fish as much as most people work. I did just that, only it lasted over 20 years working at the Jack Dennis Fly Shop in Jackson, WY where I departed in 2009. Now it’s time to work for "The Man", working for myself that is.

I pursue my love to paint fish, lecture on every aspect of fly fishing you can imagine and host a few trips to some of the most exotic places you can think of. My ultimate goal is to catch as many species of fish on fly possible from freshwater to saltwater, throughout the world. I presently have taken over 440 species from over 60 countries!
