A special thanks goes out to Yellow Dog Flyfishing and Aussie Fly Fisher for working together to create an absolutely incredible trip for me to host in the Wessel Islands of Australia. As a hardcore angler and not so good an organizer I could not have done such a trip without them. Furthermore, I thank the crew of the Wildcard vessel for making us comfortable, feeding us like kings and of course, the fantastic guides Tiger, Peter and Chris for finding us a few fish.
And what a blast it was to share this adventure with Michael Lodge, Steve Fitzsimons, Therese Rappazini, Jeff Smith and our new addition Mike Neuman. I’m very fortunate that all my guests are friends and about as easy going as they come. I get to enjoy the trip full on which is a dream come true.
I’m presently shacked up on the outskirts of Sydney tonight after an exceptional dinner at Joshua Hutchins favorite Asian restaurant. Joshua is “Aussie Fly Fisher” and over the last few years has become a great Australian friend. My bed is covered with fishing stuff as I retool from the saltwater flats to the freshwater of the Australian Outback. I’m about to spend three days with Joshua and his son Hunter freshwater fishing for Australia’s iconic freshwater fish, the Murray Cod.
