After yesterday’s outstanding flats fishing for smallies on the Old Mission Peninsula Lighthouse flat, I planned to return today and let Granny catch a few more. Instead, we opted to keep exploring this gorgeous region on the east side of Lake Michigan and we checked out some recommended carp flats on the Leelanau Peninsula. Though conditions were good with a light breeze and adequate sunshine, we didn’t see a fish. It’s likely we could have dropped some Clouser’s and crayfish patterns around the bordering boulders but we ended up being lazy and did more driving and sightseeing than serious fish hunting. The final report for our day, zero casts and about 150 miles behind the wheel checking it all out.
Once again we used our Harvest Hosts App and we are camped on the property called the Iron Fish Distillery. It has got a good fly fishing vibe and we actually met a few anglers while we were eating our pizza. It was fun. Tomorrow we head for Midland, MI to see our friends at Scientific Anglers. We’re gonna help them celebrate SA’s 80th Anniversary!
Glad to see your having a good time in the ruby van…. the harvest host is a cool idea… not sure I could drive the next morning but everything in moderation… Those flats in Lake Michigan are very cool, I have never spent time up there and looks like I am missing out on a wonderful part of the USA. I was given a bottle of cherry whiskey from the Traverse City Whiskey Company last year and it has become one of my favorites…maybe another reason to visit the area. Have fun
