It was another fine one here in Atlanta and I’m happy to say much warmer than yesterday. Today I was taken to the Jimmy Carter Library ponds to hunt down a few elusive koi that a friend of Austin Kane , David O’Banion, chases around on occasion. The two ponds are absolutely gorgeous as are the entire grounds of the establishment.
The koi however, were a bit shy. Though today warmed up, the water temps are still mighty cold for Georgia and there wasn’t much activity. I spotted exactly one koi. It was a big one and I threaded the needle of tree branches and shrubs to get a decent cast. The koi followed my fly and tailed on it. I strip set and the fish spooked. I was either a second early or a second late. It was tough to tell because the fish was in the shadows and hard to see because of ponds windy surface.
While I had no luck catching a fish today, the most important part of this visit was a huge success. Tonight I delivered, “Streamer Tricks for More and Larger Trout” to the Atlanta Fly Fishing Club. This was my third time speaking to this club since 2018. It was standing room only at Manuel’s Tavern which as the entertainer, is what I live for. It was a really a fun night!
That’s all from Atlanta Georgia. I’ll be catching a midday flight home tomorrow. It appears the weather is good back in Hayward, WI so there’s a chance Granny and I will wet a line once more on Friday. Stay tuned!
