A Week in Phoenix Arizona Begins

flyfishing-presentationsI made the half way around the world journey home from the Seychelles last week.  I wasn’t home for long but the short time was fulfilled.  I cleaned the salt off my gear from the Seychelles.  I edited Seychelles pics and caught up on blogs.  Then Saturday I donated a full day of art as part of a fundraiser for Wisconsin Trout Unlimited and the Wild Rivers Conservancy right on the home grounds of Hayward.  My art included sharpie art on a Cliff Fly Box and a Yeti Panga Backpack.  Together my fish art raised over $1000.

fly-fishing-talksYesterday Granny and I took a late flight out of Duluth and arrived in Phoenix, AZ.  We’ll be staying with our good friends Steve and Lisa Berry for a whole week.  The reason for our visit is I have speaking gigs at three different fly fishing clubs.  Tomorrow I’ll deliver “Introduction to Saltwater Fly Fishing” for the Grand Fishing Club in the afternoon then in the evening, “Fly fishing in and Around Jackson Hole” for Arizona Flycasters Club.  Wednesday night its “Streamer Tricks for more and Larger Trout” for Desert Fly Casters.

flyfishing-speakersThe reason we’re staying the whole week is for fishing.  Urban angling around Phoenix is a treat for bass, bluegill, crappie and most varieties of carp.  I enjoy all the above but have a passion for taking on the challenges of carp on fly.  Today Steve and I took a short trip to scope out some canals.  We saw some common and grass carp and made our plans to get serious for them once my talks are complete.
