Unnerving Calmness Continues at Farquhar Atoll – Day 4

We awoke to one of the flattest, calmest days I’ve ever experienced on the ocean.  The abnormal still air weather won’t break leaving us with yet another difficult day of flats fishing.  But how could you complain when you’re fishing in the Seychelles while friends...

Species Bashing on the Fly – Day 3 at Farquhar

When hosting trips, I prefer my guests fish with as many different guides as possible.  All Farquhar guides are excellent but each has a unique personality, unalike favorite fish, skills and ideas.  This variety of guides allows you to try new things and learn,...

An Unexpected Run with the Milkfish – Day 2

Once again morning came early.  Instead of tossing and turning in bed I was first to the back of the Maya’s Dugong where I dredged with my 12-weight for an hour before Lance came and joined.  We landed several dogtooth tunas but they were small.  Then I got broke off...

Fly Fishing Farquhar in the Seychelles Day 1

I had a mediocre sleep in cabin 4 of the Maya’s Dugong.  I’m a poor sleeper in life and especially when there are fish to catch.  At 4:50 AM I couldn’t toss anymore.  I headed upstairs to the back of the boat with my 12-weight Winston and fed out a huge Clouser on my...

Return to Farquhar

Morning couldn’t come soon enough.  My long-awaited host job to Farquhar Atoll in the Seychelles began.  My group and I loaded our bags in a minivan taxi and drove to the IDC charter plane airport.   At 7:30 IDC weighed us in.  We weren’t close to overweight...

Start of My Host Trip to Farquhar

I awoke this morning still trying to grasp the fact that my friends from Jackson won’t be on this trip to Farquhar.  I have a lump in my gut that isn’t going away.  I had to read my emails from yesterday again to believe it.  This situation sucks.  In hindsight, I...

Fly Fishing in Lesotho Comes to an End

Nov 25 & 26, 2016   The rain behaved last night but it didn’t help our fishing. The rivers were still blown out from storms the night before last.  Instead we fished on the dam again for a few hours then reeled it in.   This has been a fantastic visit to...

Storms Doom Yellowfish Rivers

Thunder shook Lesotho all night.  Heaps of rain fell.  We all heard it and knew for sure all rivers would be chocolate colored mud in the morning.  We slept in then took it easy while Ryan weaved us a plan for fishing the dam (reservoir).   This dam is scenic...

Long Hike Pays Dividends Fishing in Lesotho

The sun rises here in Lesotho just before 5 AM.  The birds go off like mad.  While winter approaches back home, the green of spring is full on in Southern Africa.  I live for the southern hemisphere when the days are cold and short back home.  We left early to fish a...

Return to Flyfishing in Lesotho

Fishing Bum Hits Lottery on Air France

Welcome to the Blog of Jeff Currier!

I started fly fishing at age 7 in the lakes and ponds of New England cutting my teeth on various sunfish, bass, crappie and stocked trout. I went to Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin, where I graduated with a Naturalist Degree while I discovered new fishing opportunities for pike, muskellunge, walleyes and various salmonids found in Lake Superior and its tributaries.

From there I headed west to work a few years in the Yellowstone region to simply work as much as most people fish and fish as much as most people work. I did just that, only it lasted over 20 years working at the Jack Dennis Fly Shop in Jackson, WY where I departed in 2009. Now it’s time to work for "The Man", working for myself that is.

I pursue my love to paint fish, lecture on every aspect of fly fishing you can imagine and host a few trips to some of the most exotic places you can think of. My ultimate goal is to catch as many species of fish on fly possible from freshwater to saltwater, throughout the world. I presently have taken over 440 species from over 60 countries!
