Fly Fishing for Salmon on Tillamook Bay

The weather forecast looks iffy for Mike and I to go salmon fishing on the coast of Oregon this week.  When we left his house in Portland this morning it was downpouring rain.  In fact, most of our two-hour drive to Tillamook was in a downpour.  But when we pulled in...

Fly Fishing Talk Brings Me to Oregon

I slipped into Portland, Oregon last night and am presently staying with my old friend Mike LaSota (Michigan Mike).  Mike’s last time on the blog was when we fished in Gabon in 2016.  What brought me to Portland was to give my presentation, “Streamer Tricks for More...

On the Move

Back in the day, October snow and cold meant exciting fall fishing to me.  Though it still does it also causes me to pull out the map.  Luckily, today I’m headed to Portland, Oregon to deliver my PowerPoint presentation, “Streamer Tricks for More and Larger Trout” to...

Jenny Lake Comes to Life During Winter Squall

Friend Gary Eckman and I fished Jenny Lake today in Grand Teton National Park.  Rather than fish at sunrise when it was about 20°s we met at 10 AM at the lake.  This gave me time to enjoy the Park before fishing.  We have lots of snow up high in the Tetons already....

Frozen on Kubswin Lake

Thanks to work and watching baseball I haven’t been fishing enough.  Also, our fall weather has been heinous.  On the night of September 14 our high temperatures went from the 80°s to 40°s and most days since have provided cold rain and snow.  Although todays early...

Lots of catching up on art, writing, organizing for the show season is in the rearview.  Not done but enough finished to have some fun.  This past week Granny and I went to Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri and watched two Cardinals vs Cubs games.  The Cubs lost...

The Fall Equinox Storm Arrives Early

We’ve had eight days of colder than normal September temperatures with a solid dose of precipitation mixed of rain and snow.  I refer to it as the fall Equinox storm.  It’s a good thing for Idaho.  You can never get too much moisture.  Bad weather also gives me a...

Fly Fishing the Yellowstone River in YNP

It’s been more than twenty years since I caught much on the Yellowstone River in Yellowstone National Park.  That’s since the 1990’s when the Park declared war on lake trout in Yellowstone Lake.  The very lake trout the Park is accused of stocking in the late 1800’s...

The Jackson Hole One Fly 2017

I got a call from Simms back in April asking if I would fish on their Jackson Hole One Fly Team.  At the time I expected to be tarpon fishing in the Congo and had to turn it down.  When denied our permits and VISA’s for the Congo a month ago I checked in with Simms to...

Success at Last Fly Fishing in Costa Rica

Though fly fishing Costa Rica so far has been brutal I always wake up feeling confident.  I think it’s the reason I’ve had last day success before.  Once again we had a morning storm to deal with but it wasn’t terrible like yesterday.  We couldn’t leave at our planned...

Another Tough One Tarpon Fishing In Costa Rica

Tarponville is a well-known lodge down here in Costa Rica.  It’s located in Manzanillo National Wildlife Refuge and about a half hour boat ride from the mouth of the Sixaola River which is the river that separates Costa Rica from Panama.  It is here that huge tarpon...

Beaten By the Weather – Tarpon Fishing in Costa Rica

I’ve been on plenty of exotic trips that I waited a long time for only to be brutalized by weather, bad conditions or simply lousy fishing.  There’s nothing more you can do other than get out on the water and give it your best shot.  You don’t blame the guides or the...

Torrential Rain Hinders Filming “Atlanticus”

The rain was relentless until 4 AM this morning.  We got up about that time and powered some coffee and snacks then loaded the boat for a full day of filming.  The rain stopped completely at 4:45 and at 5, when the glow of daylight began, we shoved off.  Our goal was...

Fly Fishing for Tarpon in Costa Rica

I apologize in advance for the limited photos.  Sometimes when working on a filming project there’s little time to grab my own camera.   I arrived in Costa Rica this morning at 7 AM.  Hard to believe Granny and I woke up in the back of the Explorer yesterday at...

Welcome to the Blog of Jeff Currier!

Contact Jeff

I started fly fishing at age 7 in the lakes and ponds of New England cutting my teeth on various sunfish, bass, crappie and stocked trout. I went to Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin, where I graduated with a Naturalist Degree while I discovered new fishing opportunities for pike, muskellunge, walleyes and various salmonids found in Lake Superior and its tributaries.

From there I headed west to work a few years in the Yellowstone region to simply work as much as most people fish and fish as much as most people work. I did just that, only it lasted over 20 years working at the Jack Dennis Fly Shop in Jackson, WY where I departed in 2009. Now it’s time to work for "The Man", working for myself that is.

I pursue my love to paint fish, lecture on every aspect of fly fishing you can imagine and host a few trips to some of the most exotic places you can think of. My ultimate goal is to catch as many species of fish on fly possible from freshwater to saltwater, throughout the world. I presently have taken over 440 species from over 60 countries!
